Why it (sometimes) sucks being eco-friendly

Not much in life is perfect. We’ll be the first to admit that we’re definitely not perfect! And neither are our cardboard deodorant sticks (although they’re darn close) ;)

In our quest to be as eco-friendly as possible here at Woohoo Body we’ve had to make a couple of compromises. So today we thought we’d have a chat about the “why” behind our cardboard packaging, and give you a few tips and tricks to help you get the hang of it.

Why we created cardboard deodorant sticks

Way back in 2018 – before our sticks even existed – the sweaty people of Australia were religiously applying their Woohoo deodorant paste and getting amazing protection from body odour. But there were some rumblings… some people didn’t love rubbing their deodorant on with their fingers. And some people felt a bit weird touching their armpits.

So we decided there had to be another way. A better, finger-free, mess-free way for our Woohoo warriors to wear their favourite natural deodorant. We started thinking….

Meanwhile we were watching our little business growing and more and more people were switching to Woohoo and that meant that we were also causing more load on Australia’s already stressed recycling system (as all of our packaging is 100% recyclable). Not wanting to create more burden on the system it became clear that our new packaging had to be not just 100% recyclable but also 100% biodegradable, and that eventually we would get it to a point where it would be 100% compostable.

From the very start it was a massive challenge for us to develop a deodorant formula that worked in a cardboard tube. It took months and months of trial and error to take our original deodorant pastes and convert them into super-effective “rub on” stick formulas. But we did it – and we’re proud to say that they’ve been getting some sensational reviews.

But the cardboard sticks have a few “gotchas”

Eco-friendly? TICK.

Effective formula? TICK.

Easy to use? TICK – but you’ve got to know a couple of tricks first!

When you first try a cardboard tube, you might have a few questions about how to use it. But once you’ve got the knack of how to use our Woohoo deodorant sticks, there’s no going back.

Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your eco-friendly cardboard Woohoo All Natural Deodorant stick:

Tip #1 – Less is more

Use a very light hand to apply sparingly – you’ll be surprised by how little you need!

Tip #2 – Spy a hole? It’s OK!

There *may* be an air hole or crack but this is totally normal and won’t impact the B.O. busting powers of your Woohoo. stick We check the weight of every single one.

Tip #3 – Don’t push it up too far

Only push 1 to 2 millimetres out when needed to avoid wastage.

Tip #4 – Stick stuck? Roll it!

You may need to warm the tube to allow it to slide up for the first time. Use your body heat - no microwaves! Then apply firm pressure and roll back and forth on a flat surface to loosen the deodorant in its tube.

Tip #5 – Gone too far? Tap it back down

If you’ve pushed your stick up too far please don’t push it back down with the lid. All you need to do is leave the cap OFF and send it back down by tapping it firmly on a solid surface. Easy peasy.

We never use Styrofoam to pack your order :)

On a side note we should mention that the little packing peanuts that we use when shipping your orders out AREN’T Styrofoam. They’re actually very cool little things called “bio-fill” which are made from 100% compostable corn starch and they dissolve in water.

So please don’t stress if you see something that looks like Styrofoam in your order because it’s definitely not. We recommend putting it aside till next time you need to send someone a parcel and re-using it.
